Diversity Training — A Five (5) Session Program (for 3 to 50 people)

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction… The chain reaction of evil — hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars — must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the darkness of annihilation.
—Dr. Martin Luther King

  • Cultural Competence and Embracing Difference

We will look at different ethnic groups and the assumptions often made about them. Staff will explore the belief systems, values and thought processes held by each group and how this affects the way we see others. We will identify behavioral tendencies and learn how to best work with people who have different ways of doing things.

  • The Power of Assumptions

We will analyze appearances — such as race, gender, religion, or ethnicity — the unspoken assumptions made about people and how detrimental those assumptions can be, both personally and professionally. We will challenge those assumptions and deal with stereotypes, resulting in an expanded worldview.

  • The Effects of Racism

Here we look at how racism affects people and how it wreaks havoc on our spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing. We will look at the psychological, social, moral, spiritual, intellectual, material, and physical cost of racism.

  • Embracing Diversity in the Workplace

What does it take for more successful intercultural communication?
Discover the importance of cultural differences and how our understanding of them can enhance the work environment. How can we be more sensitive to cues given by others? What can you do to improve your work relationships?

  • Sexism/Sexual Harassment

We will identify what sexual harassment is, and why it is important to understand and prevent from a legal, emotional, and productivity point of view. What do you do once sexual harassment is reported? How do you protect all employees’ rights while going through the investigation process?
